Kentucky Owl Bourbon Confiscated
Kentucky Owl Confiscated is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey created as a tribute to the brand's original inventory that was seized by the U.S. government in 1916, just before Prohibition.
The Story Behind the Name
The name "Confiscated" refers to a historical event where federal agents seized approximately 250,000 gallons of bourbon belonging to C.M. Dedman, the founder of Kentucky Owl.
Seizure: In 1916, the government took the inventory for "safekeeping" and moved it to a warehouse in Frankfort, Kentucky.
The Mystery: Shortly after, the warehouse burned down in a fire that lasted only a few hours—unusually short for a building filled with high-proof alcohol. This led to long-standing rumors that the bourbon was actually stolen by organized crime or the government.
The Legacy: C.M. Dedman was never reimbursed, which led to the original distillery's demise until it was resurrected by his great-great-grandson, Dixon Dedman, in 2014.
